Everything you need to know about Foilboard

What is Foilboard?

Foilboard is a strong, rigid insulation panel that is installed within existing cavities in your home to sustain warmth in winter and keep the cool inside come summertime, all whilst reducing energy costs! One side of the Foilboard panel is coated in a green anti-glare layer for use where the sun may create an annoying glare on the construction site. The other side is a pure silver aluminium-based property. Foilboard is manufactured in Australia from a fire-retardant expanded polystyrene core (FR-EPS) with pure aluminium foil directly laminated to both sides, creating a superior insulation, thermal break, and non-permeable moisture barrier.

How does it work?

Foilboard uses its aluminium surfaces to reflect both heat & cold energy sources. This means that in summer the heat on the outer side of Foilboard is reflected off the building, whilst also reflecting the cooler energy back inside. In winter, the cold is reflected off the external side whilst the heat is reflected into the room.

This is achieved by the product creating a thermal-break with low thermal conductivity. This slows/stops transfer of heat or cold, preventing the flow of energy (hot or cold) between the two sides of the panel.

Where can Foilboard be used?

Foilboard can be used almost anywhere from walls, underfloor or ceilings within any residential and commercial project, it is even widely used to insulate sheds and factories.

There are endless possibilities to where Foilboard can be used to insulate!

How does Foilboard compare to traditional batts?

Foilboard is much easier to install rather than traditional R value rated batts. It also speeds up the pace of your job/project and getting you at lock up stage much sooner. The most important benefit of the Foilboard range is that it provides a true thermal break around a building whilst also giving equal and greater R Values compared with labour intensive wraps and batts.

What if you want to insulate beneath your concrete floor?

For a job like this, Foilboard is ideal as it will not sag, shrink, or delaminate over time. It is lightweight and very easy to install. It is also ideal for bulk installation under concrete flooring of any size.
