Ametalin ThermalCav Drainage Battens offer innovative three-layered, high-density polypropylene strips with self-adhesive backing, meeting NCC 2022 R0.2 thermal break requirements for steel frame construction. They create a 20mm ventilation and drainage plane, ideal for use alongside roof sarking and wall wraps in both residential and commercial projects, ensuring BCA R0.2 thermal separation, occasional water drainage, passive air-flow, energy efficiency, and condensation control. Specifically designed for metal roofs, they prevent condensation formation by locating the dew point to the underside of the roof cladding. With high tack adhesive backing, temporary fixings are unnecessary. They can be installed vertically or horizontally between steel framing, building membranes, and various cladding materials, meeting ventilation requirements outlined in NCC 2022. Resistant to foot traffic and impact from cladding installation and screw pull, they provide durability and reliability.

How to Install Ametalin ThermalCav Drainage Battens

Ametalin ThermalCav Drainage Battens are typically affixed to the outer side of structural or steel framing on the building envelope, following the installation of the pliable building membrane. For optimal durability and performance, it’s recommended to install them simultaneously with the outer roof or wall cladding. Fixings should penetrate through the battens and into the structural framing below, adjusted to meet specific depth requirements.

  1. Install the pliable building membrane according to AS 4200.2:2017.
  2. Identify the structural member for attaching the battens, such as studs, plates, rafters, or purlins.
  3. Ensure the surfaces for adhesion are clean, dry, and free of contaminants like dirt, grease, or oil.
  4. Peel off the release liner from the strip.
  5. Align the battens with the supporting framing member.
  6. Apply the strip firmly by hand to maximize surface contact.
  7. Proceed with installing the designated cladding system promptly.
