FAQ’s

Insulation works by providing an additional layer of thermal resistance between the inside of your home and the elements outside. Good quality insulation will help keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer.

Insulation materials work by slowing conductive and convective heat flow. Radiant barriers and reflective insulation systems work by reducing radiant heat gain. Properly insulating your home will decrease this heat flow by providing an effective resistance to the flow of heat. It’s best to use a combination of reflective and bulk insulation for the best coverage.

With wall insulation there is a maximum thickness of 90mm for the material. This is because of the amount of space available in the cavity between walls. As a result, most wall insulation batts have a higher density. Ceiling insulation is different in that it can be thicker because you don’t need to worry about the space available to fit the material as you don’t have a cavity issue.

Acoustic insulation works by providing a varying, often denser, environment which sound has to pass through. Sound travels in waves so the best way to disrupt these soundwaves is to make them pass through environments of varying density such as Rockwool insulation. It has a higher density which means that it takes longer for the sound to pass through the material, thus making the sound softer or quieter.

Yes, you can install your own insulation. Some insulation can be irritating on your skin, so don’t forget to wear protective clothing and face masks for your safety! Just ask us for a few tips and tricks to help you out!

Insulation can last up to 100 years, but there are certain factors which can hinder the performance of the material. This includes:

  • Water damage
  • Mould
  • Punctures
  • Batts that have become dislodged
  • Dirty and logged with dust

We only sell top quality insulation from industry leaders here at No Gap Insulation. There are quite a lot of imported batts which flake very easily, are dusty, extremely itchy and hard to install. They are simply not as effective as the insulation we provide. You’ll find Knauf Earthwool and Fletcher Pink Batts to be our preferred choice of insulation. They are high quality, easy to install, and free from nasty chemicals, making it safer for you and your family.

Insulation varies in price due to a number of factors. Depending on where you live, you will need different R-values for your wall or ceiling insulation. You can have a look at our online calculator (within each selected product) to find out what the cost will be for the square metres you need.
